Emission systems are repaired to factory specifications. The shop does not delete or tune out emission equipment.
Symptoms worth a call before they get worse
White smoke on a cold start that does not clear can point to injectors or coolant getting where it should not. Black smoke under load often means too much fuel or too little air: a sticking turbocharger, a boost leak or a dirty air filter. Frequent regenerations or a derate usually start in the aftertreatment: a loaded DPF, a failed sensor or bad DEF. Rising coolant temperature on hills climbing out of the Mohawk Valley is worth checking before it becomes a head gasket.
Why city miles are hard on diesels
Trucks that spend the day idling and crawling through Utica traffic never get the exhaust hot enough to burn off soot on their own. That is why local delivery trucks see more DPF and EGR trouble than trucks that run the Thruway all day. Long highway runs between stops help; so does catching a stuck regeneration early.
